Thinking of taking a winter honeymoon trip?

Most couples think of Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands or Florida when planning their honeymoons. But for those looking for something different, a winter honeymoon might be a great way to start a marriage.

A winter honeymoon trip is ideal for skiing enthusiasts, snowmobile fans or simply those who like the serenity and beauty of winter life. Yes, it’s cold. But for many, a winter honeymoon trip offers the perfect chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

A winter honeymoon may also coincide with Christmas and other winter holidays. This magical season adds to the romance.

The first step to planning a winter honeymoon trip is to determine your destination. Fortunately, there are plenty of romantic and scenic winter destinations just perfect for honeymooners.

You might choose St. Moritz, Switzerland. The mountains here are always perfectly snow-capped during the winter. And they’re ideal for skiing and other winter sports.

Of course, St. Moritz also offers upscale restaurants, thriving business districts and historic sites. For instance, honeymooners can take a tour of buildings connected by mysterious underground passages.

Courchevel, France, is another top winter honeymoon destination. This village is part of series of French villages in the Trois Vallees area that are all connected by cable cars. Once you’re done with the amazing skiing here, you can sunbathe on the Riviera, even in the winter.

Kitzbuhel, Austria, is famous for its skiing. But it’s also well known for its romantic chalets, which are perfect for honeymooning couples. Kitzbuhel also boasts trendy night spots, perfect for the couple looking for a bit of adventure after hitting the slopes.

Of course, no list of winter honeymoon destinations is complete without mention of Lillehammer, Norway. Many consider Lillehammer to be the birthplace of skiing. Lillehammer offers more than 200 miles of cross-country trails and skiing slopes. All of them are lit by torches, creating a romantic sight after the sun goes down.

If you need a break from skiing, you can visit the Ski Museum in the city of Oslo in Norway, not far from Lillehammer. The museum is famous for housing the world’s oldest pair of skis.

A winter honeymoon trip may not be the obvious choice for most newly married couples. But for those who are fans of skiing and other winter sports, a trip to a resort nestled at the base of a majestic snow-capped mountain may be the best choice for a romantic honeymoon.
